Description
A B-24 Liberator vintage bomber plane with red propeller tips is parked on a wet tarmac, reflecting the lights around it under a dramatic, cloudy sky. The exterior of the plane features nose art "Witchcraft" and a string of bomb symbols, indicative of its historical use during wartime."Witchcraft" was the nickname of the B-24 Liberator bomber that flew with the 467th Bombardment Group of the 8th Air Force during World War II. This aircraft, with the serial number 42-52534, was known for its distinctive nose art featuring a witch riding a broomstick. The nose art was created by artist Tony Starcer, who was known for his work on many other B-24s as well. "Witchcraft" gained fame for its record number of completed combat missions without any crew injury or loss, totaling an impressive 130 missions—a remarkable feat given the hazards of aerial combat during the war. The aircraft and its crew became celebrated symbols of resilience and luck, inspiring many with their remarkable service and survival. Photographed at the Flights & Fancy event at Hilton Head, South Carolina.
